The independent island of Grenada is located 125 miles from Barbados and is the southernmost of the Windward Islands. Grenada has an area of 120 square miles and is 21 miles long by 12 miles wide. The population is approximately 110,000 with most inhabitants living in the capital of St. George’s. Its geography is generous with lush mountains, rain forests, waterfalls, wonderful beaches and numerous harbors. Known as “The Spice Island”, Grenada grows dozens of popular spices, including nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon and bay leaves. Fruit trees also abound in this verdant and fertile island.
The capital, St. George’s, is a major port which hosts all major cruise ship lines, numerous charter boats and private yachts. The new Point Salines International Airport, located 15 minutes from the capital, handles the largest commercial jets from the United States, Canada, Europe and other Caribbean islands. St. George’s is a very picturesque and lively West Indian styled town with a complete selection of retail shops, restaurants, galleries and interesting sights.
With respect to any investment in industry, manufacturing, tourism or any investment approved by the Minister, many very attractive concessions are available. For hotel development of not less than 10 rooms, there are numerous tax holidays and waivers offered. Many international investor groups see Grenada as very promising - cost of land and development is not as prohibitive as many other islands and yet the physical attributes are in full array.
At least two major hotel operators will be constructing new beachfront resorts in Grenada and several attractive and well-priced residential communities are in development.
